Changsha's 15-minute-circle project tried out

Updated: 2018-08-08

A parking sharing system with more than 3,000 spots was recently tried out in Wangluyuan Subdistrict as part of the 15-minute-circle project in Changsha, capital of Hunan province.

Aiming to improve people's quality of life, the local government plans to use a 200-million-yuan ($29.1 million) budget to build 17 neighborhoods where residents are able to meet their basic needs within a 15-minute walking radius.

In Wangluyuan, downtown Changsha, it's difficult to find parking spaces, especially around the hospitals. The city has relieved the problem with the help of the parking sharing system.

By subscribing to an official WeChat account, drivers can receive real-time information of the parking situation around hospitals. They can make reservations and set the time range of parking.

The system benefits both drivers and spot-renters, including Li Weiran, a resident living in the area. He said that he can rent out his private spot during working time, which brings convenience to others and generates some income.

Another benefit provided by the 15-minute circle project is an electronic service card which gives residents a priority while visiting community facilities such as stores, medical care centers, and fitness equipment.

According to Tong Wenmin, director of the Lotus Pond Community, 50 stores with good reputations have been selected and monitored by the community to offer service through the convenient electronic card.

Tong said that 3,000 cards have been given out. Card holders can also earn credit by garbage classification and volunteer works to exchange for personal care and services such as massages and household cleaning.

The grocery market in the community began renovations on May 8 to provide free Wi-Fi, online payments, imported fruits and prime aquatic products.

Changsha seeks to revive porcelain production

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
