About 7,000 mu (466.67 hectares) of local grapes are ripening gradually in Changsha county, ready to welcome visitors. They will arrive in shops in large quantities at the end of July.

The grape industry in Changsha county is profitable because of many years' planting experience and proven techniques which ensure a high quality and quantity of grapes in the market, according to an official from the county's agriculture and forestry bureau.

Happy Ecological Grape Base, a grape base in Huilong village, Huanghua town, produces table grapes and wine grapes with different tastes on its 80-mu farm. The currently popular variety of table grapes is Summer Black, small and seedless with sweet and juicy flesh.

"We always wait for the natural maturity of the grapes to ensure top quality. The yield of 1000 kilograms per mu this year is slightly less than usual," said Liao Jian, principal of the base, "The profit is still considerable as the market price has reached 30 yuan per kilogram."

The grape base is full of grape-picking visitors on weekends, added Liao. Other options for picking grapes in Changsha County are Chengyuan Ecological Grape Base in Jintuo village, Langli sub-district, Qixin Ecological Farm in Qingshanpu town and Songya Lake Ecological Farm in Ansha town.
